Aden Country Park named one of UK's best
ADEN Country Park at Mintlaw has been recognised as one of the country's best green spaces with a prestigious Green Flag Award.
Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the best parks in the country and Aden Country Park impressed the judges with its excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standard of safety and security.
The park was judged for the award in May and two judges inspected the various facilities. The success makes the park the most northerly recipient of a Green Flag in the United Kingdom.
Iain Gabriel, director of transportation and infrastructure for Aberdeenshire Council said: "This is a fantastic outcome for Aden Country Park and the staff who work to maintain its excellent facilities.
"The Green Flag Award is a prestigious accolade and demonstrates to residents the high level of service which is available to them at the park."
Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.
Paul Todd, manager of the Green Flag Award Scheme, said: "It's a remarkable achievement that so many parks have successfully reached Green Flag Award status this year. The staff running the parks work very hard throughout the year to ensure their facilities are maintained to a high standard and enjoyed by the entire community. "
Commenting on the award, Buchan area committee chairman Councillor Stuart Pratt said: "This is a tremendous achievement. When it's on your own doorstep sometimes you just take it for granted and do not realise how good it is."
