Airgun attack on Fraserburgh’s Lighthouse Museum

tHE Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh has been subjected to another spate of vandalism.

The latest attack saw damage to five windows at the popular tourist attraction. It is believed the incident took place overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

It is believed an air rifle was used to shoot through five 8ft by 3ft panes of glass.

The Lighthouse Museum’s maintenance contractors have already boarded up the affected windows. The cost of repairing the windows is estimated to be in excess of £1,600.

It is the second incident to have occurred at the museum in recent years. Two winters ago, a scaffolding pole was used to shatter a window at the attraction.

Commenting, business manager of the Lighthouse Museum, Gary Campbell, said: “This kind of vandalism not only impacts on the Lighthouse Museum but the town as a whole.

“The visitors the lighthouse attracts - some 12,000 per year - are spending significant amounts of money in the local economy.

“For visitors to come and see this kind of damage can only be bad for Fraserburgh as a whole.

“All our customers who have come in today have been very supportive but also disgusted by this act of mindless vandalism.”

PC Richard Cooper from the Fraserburgh Local Policing Team said: ‘’The museum attracts many people to Fraserburgh and is a great asset to the local community.

“Many people go there to use the cafe and look at the views across the sea and the local wildlife, but unfortunately due to this mindless act the windows are now boarded up.

“I would urge the community to get behind our investigation and contact us with any information which may assist us in tracing those responsible.’’
