Broch Lifeboat welcomes Dr Voisey

ARRIVAL: Dr Carolyn Voisey arrives with 'Dolly', her motorbike, at the Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station.

Dr Carolyn Voisey, a volunteer crew member of Troon RNLI arrived in Fraserburgh after a 500 mile trip from Cambridge at the start of last week on her motorbike ‘Dolly’ so that she could relieve ‘Gipper’ Ainslie, the regular mechanic aboard the Fraserburgh Lifeboat.

Dr Voisey, a marine scientist by profession, had been 2nd Mechanic aboard the Troon Lifeboat for a number of years until she stepped down after accepting a two-year contract in her day job to clear World War II mines in the Baltic Sea so that an oil pipeline could be laid.

On her return to Scotland, she re-joined Troon RNLI and, when work commitments allow, has been able to serve as relief mechanic at several Lifeboat stations including Fraserburgh, Troon, Dunbar and Buckie.

She very much enjoyed her stay in the Broch and eulogised about the clear light, the clean air, the sunny weather and could not speak highly enough about the support and friendship she’d received from Coxswain Vic Sutherland and his crew.

Carolyn was on duty again on Friday morning at 8:55am when the lifeboat responded to a call from the oil tanker ‘Aberdeen’, lying 6 miles North-West of Fraserburgh, to transfer a seaman who had taken ill to hospital.
