Broch Rock talent test
Fraserburgh Academy pupils did the Broch proud last weekend when they travelled to Aberdeen to compete in the North-east heats of Global Rock Challenge.
The Fraserburgh youngsters rocked past the likes of Mackie and Mearns academies to take top spot at the heats, winning awards for performance, video and drama skills, placing first overall.
The result means the Broch’s pupils will travel to Dundee in June to take part in the Scottish finals of the competition.
Banff and Buchan MP Eilidh Whiteford, who was in attendance to see Fraserburgh Academy pick up the win, said: “I was delighted to be able to attend the Aberdeen heat this year and I was even more pleased that Fraserburgh Academy emerged triumphant at the end of the night and brought first place home to Banff & Buchan.
“The performance by the Fraserburgh pupils was truly spectacular, highly professional and deserving of their first place, in addition to the other awards they picked up on the night for drama skills, video performance and performing skills.”
Local councillor and former Fraserburgh Academy teacher Charles Buchan commented: “To reach this standard, pupils and staff have put in many, many hours of rehearsal time after school, and in the evenings, and we hope that again Fraserburgh Academy will be successful as in previous years in the National Final.”
The Provost of Aberdeenshire, Jill Webster, also congratulated the participants in this year’s competition.
