Children 1st award ceremony
BRIGHTER FUTURES: The photography contest was hailed a success by Children 1st and the ADP.
In 2010, the Aberdeenshire Alcohol Drugs Partnership North Forum supported a partnership with Banff and Buchan College and local charity Children 1st to deliver a digital photography course at SVQ standard.
Last year, Wayne Gault, the strategic development officer of the ADP, suggested that a photography contest should be organised to build on the experience of this and to find some local photographs of Aberdeenshire to use in future strategic documents from 2012-2015.
A small group of dedicated service users committed to planning and delivering this, but entries were slow to come in.
However, by the closing date 40 were submitted.
Judging the photographs, Charles Skene OBE, ex-Pepsi director, Donald Stewart, royal photographer, and Wayne Gault judged the entries.
‘Girls dancing on beach’ by Carol Reilly, Peterhead, took first place, but the judges commended all entries.
One entrant, Rory Barclay of Inverurie, could not attend the ceremony due to an interview with a college for a place on a photography course, perhaps proving the worth of the project overall.
Jenna Wemys and Eddie Lille were awarded with awards for their commitment to the project.
All prizes were funded by the North, Central and South Fora.
Winner Carol Reilly received a camera for her entry.
