Churches celebrate 1,000 years of worship
AROUND 150 people attended the first event organised by Cruden Churches to celebrate 1,000 years of worship in the parish, the first chapel being built in 1012 and dedicated to St. Olaf.
An open air service took place on St. Olaf’s Day - July 29, beside St. Olaf’s Well adjacent to the 17th fairway of Cruden Bay Golf Curse, led by the Episcopal Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney, the Rt. Rev. Bob Gillies, assisted by Rev. Canon Peter Mander and Rev. Rodger Neilson.
The second of three events planned by the churches to commemorate the 1,000 years is a flower festival this weekend.
The churches will be open from 10am to 5pm on both days, and all are welcome to go along and enjoy the floral spectacle.
