Extra police patrols in North-east

Extra police patrols are to be carried out in Banff and Macduff in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night in order to deal with youth anti-social behaviour in the north Aberdeenshire towns.

Concerns have been raised by the local community who have reported groups of young people congregating in various streets in Banff and Macduff.

Funding has been received from Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership and Grampian Police are to deploy extra police foot patrols in the affected areass over a period of three weeks commencing tomorrow (Friday).

Local Policing Sergeant Ian Cameron, stationed at Banff Police Office, said: “Funding has been received from the Community Safety Partnership which will allow us to dedicate additional police officers on foot patrol in Banff and Macduff during the evening at the weekends. This will be particularly beneficial in view of the increase in youth annoyance calls normally experienced by the police at this time of the year.

“This is in response to complaints from local people in relation to groups of young people gathering in various streets in Banff and Macduff, a minority of whom are reported as being involved in underage drinking and general anti-social behaviour.”
