Get involved with Theatre Modo preparations for fireworks parade

FRASERBURGH folk are getting more opportunities to participate in this year’s Shell Fireworks Parade.

The full Theatre Modo team started work on the parade last week and have already delivered over 70 workshops in the Broch and beyond, working with young people in schools, youth groups and after school sessions to learn skills and create routines.

Martin Danziger of Theatre Modo said: “We are pleased to be able to give young people interested in taking part three new ways of getting involved.

“Whether it is circus, stilts, fire or helping to make the props and puppets there is something for everyone.

“We will soon be announcing more opportunities to take part, especially over the October holidays so don’t forget to check our Facebook page and the Fraserburgh Herald for updates.”

Work on the ‘Fire Performance’ takes place on Thursdays from 7pm-9pm in Fraserburgh Fishmarket.

Modo and Inferno Fire Troupe are looking for local people who want to learn how to perform with fire for this year’s parade. Participants will have a chance to learn all the fire skills (clubs, staffs etc) and perform in the big parade.

No previous experience necessary but you must be 4th year at the academy or above to take part. You should wear natural fibres - cotton, leather or denim - as polyester and nylon burns horribly.

The ‘Art Drop-ins’ are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-5.30pm in the fishmarket.

If you fancy helping to make the big props, puppets and floats for this year’s parade, Modo is opening up the workshop down at the fishmarket after school.

Workshops are open to anyone aged 10 or over - including adults. Interested parties can head down as a one off or regularly and learn some of the skills used to make all the creations for the parade. Martin added: “The fishmarket is unheated so please wear warm clothes, and as you will be using paint and glue, do not wear clothes that you are too precious about!”

The third fun-filled activity is ‘CircoModo’ at the Active Hub on Fridays from 6-8pm in the JIC building on Albert Street. CircoModo at the Active Hub is supported by ADP. Go along and learn a host of circus skills, including stilt walking, flag poi and maybe even fire. Open to anyone over 10. Over the weeks participants will learn skills and prepare routines for the parade.
