Last year’s record attendance was broken at Banff and Buchan College’s annual oil and gas event last Thursday, February 16. The event showcased career options made available to those interested in the oil and gas industries.

Over 900 delegates attended the event which was, for the first time, held in the atrium of the newly refurbished College building in Fraserburgh - part of a multimillion pound redevelopment of the campus.

As well as being able to speak to College staff, guests were able to chat to representatives from leading oil and gas companies including Vroon Offshore, ACE Winches, Springtech, Genesis Recruitment, ECITB, Technip UK Ltd, Schlumberger, Falck Nutec, Gray & Adams, Score Group, Wood Group, Enermech, Halliburton, and AMEC.

Guests were also able to speak to the Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the Royal Air Force, Skills Development Scotland, and Aberdeen College representatives.

College Principal Paul Sherrington said of the event:

“I was delighted to see such a high turnout at [the] Oil and Gas Event, it is great that so many people came along to see what’s on offer at the College to help them pursue a career in the Industry.

“I am also pleased to see that the popularity of this event is increasing; delegates travelled from as far North as Tain and also from the Scottish Borders.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies that exhibited at the event for taking the time to come along and speak to our current and prospective students.”

Banff and Buchan College will likely be celebrating again next month when they invite Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond to Fraserburgh.

The First Minister will formally open the college following its redevelopment on March 2, at 10:30am.
