Ideal Kidz score top marks from Care Commission
THE FRASERBURGH-based Ideal Kidz Klub has been given top marks in the latest report by the Care Commission following their recent inspection.
The Ideal Kidz Klub, which provides an out of school day care service for primary school children at the JIC Building on Albert Street, was given a "very good" evaluation when it came to the quality of care and support, environment, staffing and management and leadership.
Ideal Kidz Klub provides a service for up to 32 children of primary school age. The club operates a breakfast and after-school care club and also provides a service during school holidays, in-service days and on occasions when schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Commenting on the findings of the report, manager Margaret Whyte told the Herald: "My team and I are delighted with the Care Commission report. It reflects the ongoing commitment the Klub has to both the children and families who are registered with us.
"As usual the Klub will be open throughout tall school holidays and inservice days. In the event all schools in Fraserburgh are closed due to adverse weather the Klub will remain open."
In the report, the Care Commission it stated: "Overall a very good service was provided. The manager was enthusiastic and had made improvements throughout the club.
"Staff planned activities based on conversations with the children. Children said that they enjoyed the club. They liked meeting their friends and got on well with the staff.
"The accommodation provided opportunities for children to have access to physical play indoors and out and quieter activities indoors. The staff team worked well together. They were hardworking and committed. The provider had very good safe recruitment procedures in place.
"The provider, manager and staff worked together as a team to deliver very good care and support for children in premises which were clean and well maintained."
The service was found to have very good procedures in place to ensure that children and carers participated in assessing and improving the quality of the service. A large proportion of carers had completed customer satisfaction questionnaires where they gave their views and graded the quality of the service. This included care and support, staffing, range of activities, children's experiences, the environment and management.
The report noted that carers had been invited to a meeting to discuss the Care Commission self assessment and the self assessment that the provider had planned to submit. There was evidence that the provider had adjusted the grades in the self assessment based on their comments.
Carers were issued with quarterly newsletters and there was a section for them to return with comments or suggestions. There was also a suggestions box in the setting.
Children were observed choosing their own activities during the inspection. At monthly children's meeting they had opportunities to help plan activities and make comments. There were discussions on health and safety and behaviour and copies of the minutes were provided. Staff were observed to have very good relationships with children.
The entrance corridor had been improved since the last inspection with new seating and containers for school bags, while the walls have been decorated with displays, photographs and a very good variety of information.
