Meet the police day at Fraserburgh

GRAMPIAN Police is reaching out to members of the eastern european community with a 'Meet the Police' open day.

The event took place at Fraserburgh community centre on Saturday with the aim of encouraging the community to engage with officers from Grampian Police and other partner agencies.

The event, which was open to all, was attended by officers from departments that included crime reduction, diversity liaison and roads policing - all from Aberdeenshire Division.

There were stalls and displays providing general advice and literature covering topics such as home/personal safety, traffic legislation and Internet use.

The event was organised by the Aberdeenshire diversity liaison officer, Constable Derek Allison, along with Jan Brown of the community learning and development department for Aberdeenshire Council.

Constable Allison said: "We are always looking at ways to engage with all of our communities. The benefit of this day was to give local communities the opportunity to come along and find out the services that Grampian Police can provide."

Jan Brown said: "It was a pleasure to work in partnership with Grampian Police at this event, and I look forward to working alongside them again in the future.

"The event was very well received by the migrant community, who found it informative, well organised and fun. A good day was had by all."

One of the partner agencies in attendance was Multi Ethnic Aberdeen Ltd whose business development manager Malcolm McCarthy said: "We are delighted to support Grampian Police in working so positively with the minority ethnic communities in the North-east.

"We greatly look forward to further partnership working which has such benefit to the community."
