FISSH held its first fundraising Midsummer Night Ball in the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre on Saturday, June 21, raising the magnificient sum of 11,600.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "The hall looked great, the new curtains round the walls really helped create a more intimate atmosphere, the round tables complete with matching balloons and napkins looked great, but what really made the occasion special were the guests.

"Everyone looked wonderful. Approximately 330 people attended and each and every one of them looked fantastic. Some had travelled from far flung places just to be there.

"The atmosphere was brilliant right from the start with a champagne reception being most welcome, it was difficult to get everyone to take their seats as mingling was very much the order of the day."

They have praised the efforts of the Centre's manager, David Watt and his staff at the Leisure Centre who: "really pulled out all the stops and served a beautifully presented meal extremely professional, withe bar staff providing a very efficient table service to match. People were at pains to point out how pleasant the staff had been and how welcoming."

FISSH are also extremely grateful to all those local businesses and individuals who provided raffles for the night: "There were some fantastic prizes on offer and the guests were extremely generous in their ticket purchases and delighted with what they won."

Elvis then did a couple of numbers to start off the night's entertainment. He then helped with the heads and tails game, which was also very generously supported, with the winner receiving a holiday voucher and th runner-up a night's accommodation with full breakfast in a very nice hotel in Aberdeen.

The band 'Picture This' from Dundee, then took to the stage, and they were fantastic: "The floor filled immediately and never emptied. The sea of happy faces being all the proof needed of the evening being a success."

The spokesperson added: "When the band took their break the auction was held, with some fantastic items up for grabs. A huge thanks to all those who so generously provided them, to those who bid for them to those who were lucky enough to be successful. Also to James Scott for his wonderful auctioneering skills.

"The evening ended all too soon being the only complaint, but there are plans to do it all over again next year.

"Thanks go to everyone who helped organise the evening and worked so hard on the days leading up to it and on the night itself," said a spokesperson.

The only request from organisers is that all those guests who took balloons home as a memento of the night, now that these have deflated to please return the silver star weights. They can be dropped off either at the reception of the swimming pool or to any of the committee members. They were bought so that they could be used time and again. The Summer Prom on August 16 has already booked them.

People are making sure of their tables, and several people have pre-booked already. Ring Doreen Mair on 514096 if you want to guarantee yours.
