Moonlight Prowlers efforts totally up
SO FAR the Fraserburgh Moonlight Prowl 2009 has brought in more than £110,000.
Members of the Prowl's Organising Committee conducted a count on Tuesday this week:
"The total that has been collected in to date is 113,216.39.
"We are totally overwhelmed yet again at the generosity of spirit of local people," said a spokeswoman for the group.
However, the spokeswoman added that this incredible total is not the final one:
"Quite a few of the Prowl walkers work for companies where they operate a match funding to the amount these indiviuals raise, so we would expect this figure to raise once that has come in," she added.
The organisers also know of a number of walkers who were unable to hand their sponsorship money in by Tuesday:
"We would urge anyone with sums still to hand in to get in touch with us as soon as they can, so that we can then look to arrange the presentation of cheques," she added.
On Saturday, June 6, the Broch was awash with Pink Ladies when almost 1,500 walkers took part in the Moonlight Prowl.
The Prowl has become an annual event attracting participants from throughout the North East of Scotland.
The Organising Committee praised those who took part in the event, the people who sponsored them and the town for the way in which the people of Fraserburgh have taken the event to heart:
"We have to thank the public for the tremendous support.
"Fraserburgh did themselves proud. One lady taking part in the event, who had travelled from Aberdeen, came in after the walk and said she could have put on weight due to the cakes and refreshments she was offered.
"The hospitality shown to the Prowlers was second to none," she said.
The spokesperson added that the way the people of the town have embraced the event was a great boost and made the event a truly special day in Fraserburgh's calendar:
"It was just incredible, with walkers coming back after the walk saying they had been offered tea and food and the use of people's toilets if they needed them.
"It was very warming and we have to extend our thanks to the people of Fraserburgh," she added.
