On the Moonlight Prowl for five years
FOR the fifth year a big-hearted North-east community is preparing to launch one of the areas largest fundraising events.
Since its inception in 2006, Fraserburgh's Moonlight Prowl has raised more than 340,000 for research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the University of Aberdeen.
Event secretary Margaret-Jane Cardno said "This event goes from strength to strength and this year we hope to attract record numbers.
"Registration for the fifth annual event will be launched this Sunday (January 31) with a Pink and Positive day in Fraserburgh's Dalrymple Hall and Arts Centre. Ladies can come along between 11am and 4pm and kick start their training with advice from a wide range of professionals from the health and leisure sectors."
This year's launch event will be supported by Fraserburgh Football Club which will be undertaking a charity exercise bike challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. It is estimated that 1 in 10 women will be affected by breast cancer during their lifetime. However, survival rates are increasing substantially and almost 80% will beat breast cancer.
The Moonlight Prowl is part of the fight against breast cancer and its unique partnership with the University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has helped establish a number of research projects related to DNA and the effect of lifestyle choices, the spreading of tumors, specifically to the bones and developing clinical practice to support people living with Breast Cancer.
