Paul leaps for Scottish charity

A FORMER Academy pupil Paul Main recently under took a parachute jump for the Scottish Motor Neurone Association.

Paul, who now lives and works in London, has been a long-term campaigner for the charity, after a friend was diagnosed with the condition.

His jump has raised more than 1,600.

After the leap, Paul told the Herald:

"It was a great experience. I quite a buzz from doing it and was very pleased to help towards the work being carried out to find out how more can be done to combat Motor Neurone."

Once he had he landed on Terra Firma, Paul said:

"I jumped out of a perfectly good aircraft for the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association at Lewknor in Oxfordshire.

"It was a great experience and there was no mishaps.... But I'll tell you what the relief when you see that open canopy is immense.

"Once I had dealt with the nuisance of having twisted lines, I followed the drills I was taught and then I was soaring.

"Flying the parachute was pretty easy and my landing was not exactly balletic and I was a metre wide of the mark, but who cares it rocked!

"Also, I did not hit a tree!"

Paul explained why he supported the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association:

"I strongly support the work of this charity.

"My good friend Euan MacDonald has been living with this disease for some years now and has been working towards a global research centre for MND in Edinburgh.

"Monies donated will got towards this centre as well as assisting other people with this cruel disease.

"Thanks to everyone who donated we have managed to raise an awesome 1,610.00 for the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association," he added.
