Poetry at Lighthouse as book is launched

The first ever Scottish Lighthouse Poetry Book is being launched at the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses.

The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh will be launching the first ever book of poetry solely about Scottish lighthouses by poet Knotbrook Taylor on Saturday at 3pm.

Knotbrook has always been interested in lighthouses. In 2008, he began a Residency at The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh and in his time has researched in the Museums archives and travelled the length and breadth of Scotland visiting lighthouses.

This resulting in his new book Scottish Lighthouse Poems.

There will be poems about lighthouses that were painted black, magical lighthouses, foghorns and a long poem about a keeper who lived on the Bell Rock in 1902.

"Lighthouses inspire artists across the world" said Museum Director Virginia Mayes-Wright "The Museum is proud to be publishing this work."

The launch of "Scottish Lighthouse Poetry" at 3pm on 4th September is free and refreshments will be served. The launch is part of the New Words festival of new writing in Aberdeen and North East Scotland. Special guest on the day will be one of Scotland's leading poets John Glenday who has said the following about Knotbrook's new work:

"This astonishing collection of poems, found poems and fragments does what all good poetry should do: it engages, enlightens and entertains us. But its true significance comes from the wonderful insight it grants us into a profession that has virtually ceased to exist. In this respect it is welcome both as a literary achievement and a historical account."
