River baptisms for Mintlaw church

Aden Park was the site for the first Baptisms conducted by Mintlaw Community Church this month.

The weather held out for the 6 brave individuals who were baptised in the cold waters of the River Ugie, a first for the church.

Pastor Stuart Watt said: “For them this was an opportunity to follow the example that Jesus gave as found in the Bible. And of course it was also a way for them to publicly demonstrate their faith in Him. Baptism is symbolic of a life that once was lived for self but now is dedicated to following God.”

The church only began on Easter Sunday and meets in Mintlaw Academy weekly at 2pm. The church is part of the ‘The Assemblies of God’ (AOG) and the church is an outreach of AOG Central Fraserburgh.

Unusually the pastor donned denim shorts and a t- shirt for the river ceremony to avoid getting his trousers wet. All 6 were baptised without any problems and each wore a Mintlaw Community Church t-shirt. There were many dry spectators watching the event on the river side.

Stuart said: “Around 200 people gathered there for refreshments and a service following the baptisms. This capped a wonderful weekend which also included a church BBQ and fun day.”
