Roads community cafe to open in St Combs

AFTER seven years of planning, St Combs finally has a community cafe.

The custom built new Caf on High Street will officially open its doors to the public on Saturday, 28th February, 2009, at 10:00 am - 4:00pm.

"It's been seven years since the concept of a community caf venue in the village of St. Combs was established.

"Initially, there was a committee of seven people who applied for charity status seven years ago to do something positive for the community," said a spokesman for the Community Church.

The new building has cost more than 250,000. It will be officially opened at 10:00 on Saturday, 28th February.

"The caf will then be open for business on Tuesdays through to Saturday, from 10:00am until 4:00pm, with last cooked orders 3:15pm, and will soon be open at nights for tea coffee and light snacks from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

"The menu will be similar to the successful pilot caf that was open Tuesdays and Thursdays at Rathen East and the aims and objectives are to provide a venue managed similar to the successful 4Cs cafe in New Pitsligo," he added.

The Roads funding team received financial support from a number of organisations:

"The building project has been mostly funded by the National Lottery, Scottish Land Fund, Aberdeenshire Council and SITA Trust and the short fall was raised by local fundraising with support from local business, volunteers packing shopping and organised events.

"Roads fundraising team would especially like to thank Buchan Development Partnership based in Maud without their help, advice and support the fundraising efforts would have been a lot harder and taken a lot longer.

"Roads team would also thank Buchan Design's Jim Buchan and Cairnhill Development's Alan Cook for there support and help with the project," he added.

Reverend Forbes Nicol expressed his delight at the forthcoming opening:

"I have been involved in the project from the very beginning acting as project manager, and its great too see the building after 7 years finally finished.

"I would like to thank the people and especially the youth who have helped with local fundraising events and bag packs at M & S Aberdeen to raise the funds for flooring, chairs, and equipment to "kit out" the cafe. There hard work has really paid off," he said.
