Rotary lifestraw campaign on a roll
MORE than £3,000 has now been raised in the Fraserburgh Rotary Lifestraw Campaign.
Local Roatrians launched the campaign to purchase Lifestraws, a filter system designed to make water safe to drink.
A collection at Fraserburgh's Tesco store (above) saw the group raise 1,200.
This week, a further 1,300 has been received: "This is a tremendous boost to purchase point of use microfilters called Lifestraws, which turn dirty water into clean water.
"This is so important for children in Pakistan, who are suffering and dying through the lack of clean water and food," said a spokesperson for the Club.
A Rotary Club in Wales has just organised 2,500 of Family Lifestraws to be sent from Vietnam, where they are made to Karachi in Pakistan: "People there desperately needed by people for clean drinking water," he added.
A Family Lifestraw costs 25 and a Personal Lifestraw 5. Anyone wishing to contribute is asked to send a cheque in favour of Fraserburgh Rotary Club to Ms Anne Brodie-Allan, Airdlin Farmhouse, Ythanbank, Ellon, AB41 7TY.
"Fraserburgh Rotary Club thanks all who have contributed. We believe these donations will save lives," he said.
