Banff and Buchan College have announced that their recent participation in the two-day British Science Festival was highly successful, with over 700 school pupils visiting the college.
The College participated in and hosted 12 interactive and original workshops providing students with an insight into the fascinating world of science, engineering and technology. Students came from all over Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen and included representatives from Mintlaw Academy, Fraserburgh Academy, Meldrum Academy, Gordon’s School, Bucksburn Academy and Albyn School.
The Fraserburgh campus became a hotbed of activity as students and teachers alike were offered opportunities to take part in activities such as turning a potato into plastic, sampling games software created by College students, and finding the answer to the question “are we all mutants?”
Joanne Coleman, British Science Festival Manager said: “We were absolutely delighted to be able to partner with Banff and Buchan College to deliver a programme of activity for S1 and S2 which offered them a unique experience to come out of school and attend talks and workshops by some of the best science communicators in the UK. The programme was very well received by students and teachers alike, with over 700 students taking part. “
Kelly Stephen, Biology Teacher at Mintlaw Academy said: “Watching the pupils put teamwork skills into action was fantastic. The students were engaged and had a lot of fun – many said they could see themselves coming to the College in the future.”
