ECO-FRIENDLY: Pupils at Fraserburgh's South Park School are pictured proudly showing off their Green Flag for being eco-friendly. The School have worked really hard to achieve this accomplishment and all the teachers and head teacher, Linda Hutt, are "fair chuffed!"

Fraserburgh’s South Park Primary School celebrated earning their first Green Flag for becoming an eco-school on December 6. Headteacher Linda Hutt and staff were said to be “fair chuffed” upon receiving the award, thanking everyone for all of their hard work.

Speaking to the Fraserburgh Herald, South Park Primary School’s headteacher said:

“Everyone has done a fantastic job for the school.

“We had to look at ways to improve the school by reducing our carbon footprint before an inspector came to judge our work. We passed with flying colours.

“It really is fantastic, and we hope to look to get more awards in the future,” added the headteacher.

South Park Primary School, in the meantime, have started the search to find a flagpole for their Green Flag, and they urge any local builders to come forward to the school if they believe that they can help with this endeavour.

“It’s an acknowledgement of all of the hard work that was put in from the pupils, staff, parents and local community – a good team effort,” said headteacher Linda Hutt.

The Green Flag was awarded by Eco-Schools Scotland, an international initiative designed to encourage positive action for the envirnment, educating and raising awareness through an awards scheme.

Fraserburgh’s South Park Primary School will now have to apply to Eco-Schools Scotland every two years to renew their Green Flag status.
