St Combs Primary School waved goodbye to headteacher Robert Watt last Friday, having spent nearly 24 years at the North-east school.

In a service that also awarded students for their work throughout the year, and saw the primary sevens say their own goodbyes to teachers and friends, gifts, a poem and even a cake was presented to the retiring Mr Watt.

Mr Watt, who had been part of the St Combs school for nearly quarter of a century, said at the close of the special service: “I would like to say a big thank you.

“I’ve been proud to be the headteacher at St Combs. I’ve had the best staff, the best parents and, always, the best pupils.

“A big thank you to everyone, it’s very humbling.”

Mr Watt revealed that several other members of staff were also leaving the school, but commented that “it’s a story with a happy ending. Thank you very much.”

A prayer of thanks was then given, before Mr Watt went on to thank those in attendance for arriving, commenting: “It’s been an honour and a privilege.”

Mrs A. Buchan said afterwards on Mr Watt’s retirement: “He’s going to be a big miss to the school.”
