Tributes paid to crash victim

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 19-year-old Rosehearty woman who died in a car crash on Sunday.

Laura Thomas was killed when the car she was driving was in collision with another vehicle on the A981 Memsie to Strichen Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Four passengers in the black Ford Ka driven by Miss Thomas suffered serious injuries and were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The head-on collision involved a silver-Renault Megane and occured at a bend in the road about a mile and a half south of Memsie.

Miss Thomas was declared dead at the scene. Police said that Miss Thomas' car was travelling north when it was in collision with the south-bound vehicle. The road was closed for eight hours while police carried out a detailed examination of the scene.

Grampian Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been charged and that a report would be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Tributes and messages of condolence have flooded in for Miss Thomas, who was affectionately known by friends as Laura Gaga because of her resemblance to the pop singer.

One friend, Lynne Durno, left a message of condolence on social networking site bebo. She said: "RIP Laura, always remember the good times we had in drama. It's always the good ones that are taken from us. Sleep tight, you're going to be missed so much by everyone."

Fraserburgh councillor Michael Watt said: "It is a tragedy that a young girl has lost her life. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. I can't even begin to imagine what they are going through."
