Nineteen pupils from Lochpots Primary School in Fraserburgh are the first to be awarded the Young Aberdeenshire Volunteer Award within the whole of the Aberdeenshire area.

The pupils have achieved these awards through volunteering within either the school or in the wider community. Many pupils acted as buddies, or classroom assistants, while others took part in knitting classes and updating the schools website.

The Young Aberdeenshire Volunteer Award was introduced last year by the Volunteer Centre Partnership (VCA) and is supported by the Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership. The award supports the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence through the development of two key capacities in young people - responsible citizens and effective contributors - and is for young people aged 5-15 years old,

The Volunteer Centre Aberdeenshire’s role is to support local schools in the local development of the award, and they will provide the administrative support to facilitate the recording of pupil’s achievements and issuing certificates.

The Volunteer Centre Aberdeenshire would also like community groups and local charities that offer volunteering opportunities to young people to support this new award. You can get in touch or request more information by emailing central@vcaberdeenshire.org.uk or visiting the website at www.vcaberdeenshire.org.uk.
