Woman retires after 46 years in post
Ena Lamb, who is about to retire from the Fraserburgh Bus Station after working there for 46 years, with her mother, Betty McIntosh.
A Mintlaw woman has retired from her work at the Fraserburgh Bus Station after 46 years.
Christina Lamb, or Ena, as she is better known, left the bus station’s admin office last week.
Ena was joined by her mother, Betty McIntosh, last Wednesday to celebrate the 46th anniversary since she started working at the depot. Then, last Friday, Ena said goodbye to the bus station for the final time.
Ena started working at the bus station when it was still owned by W Alexander and Sons Ltd. The station has had at least three changes of owners since then.
Ena is married with one daughter and three grandchildren. She began her career at the depot as a junior at a time when there were still bus conductors as well as drivers, with the former being phased out in 1973. Ena’s late father worked at the bus station as an inspector.
To celebrate the special milestone and the start of her retirement, Ena was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a cake as well as a gift token from her colleagues at the Peterhead depot.
Ena lists gardening, playing bowls, craft work and baking as just some of the hobbies she would like to spend time doing during her retirement.
Commenting, Ena said: “I’ve seen a lot of changes. I love working with the public and with the drivers here at Fraserburgh. I’ve enjoyed it.
“I just wanted to retire so I could spend more time doing things I wanted to do.”
