Local man raises over £4K for diabetes team

A keen Rosehearty cyclist has recently completed an inspiring 155 mile bicycle journey from Ullapool to Fraserburgh, raising £4,500 in the process for the diabetes ward at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

After his eldest daughter, Leah, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in May, 2011, at the age of 12, Martin Smart wanted to show his appreciation for the care that the diabetes team gave to her during her stay in
hospital.

Since being diagnosed, Leah has had to attend many out-patient appointments, with the diabetes team always there or at the end of a telephone to offer advice and reassurance.

Being a keen cyclist, Martin took on the gruelling challenge to cycle from Ullapool to Fraserburgh in 1 day, completing the challenge in 9 hours and 44 minutes.

He would like to extend his gratitude and thanks to Dru West, who provided support on the day.

He would also like to thank family, friends and local businesses who very generously sponsored him and helped raise this fantastic sum.
