Fraserburgh’s Museum of Scottish Lighthouses hosted a meeting between elected representatives, the area manager and the museum’s business manager last month.

The meeting had been planned at the last meeting of the Banff and Buchan Area Committee, when business manager Gary Campbell had prepared a report to present to councillors.

However, rather than speak at the meeting, and respond to questions fielded, councillors instead decided to hold an informal meeting at the museum.

Commenting on how the meeting went, which discussed plans going forward for the tourist attraction, Mr Campbell said: “It was excellent.

“It was just a really good, two-way exchange of information and ideas.

“It was really good that the councillors each took time out of their busy schedule to come along,” he added.

Mr Campbell revealed that, among the items discussed, the plan was to make the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses sustainable.

“It was just an update on how we’re progressing.

“It’s about making the place a sustainable entity and our plans for the next three years.

“It was good to be given the opportunity to have that discussion,” he commented.

Local councillor Charles Buchan, who is also a member of the council’s education, learning and leisure committee, as well as a nominated member of Scottish Lighthouse Museum, said: “I think it was very productive. I think everybody who attended there got a lot out of it.

“We’ve a really good story to tell in terms of the finances of the lighthouse. In the last couple of years, I think, the earned income has trebled.

“The contributions made by the lunches and the restaurants in the evening has been very, very significant towards this financial position,” he added.
