Local business Berry Scrumptious experienced the taste of success at the Grampian Food Forum’s Innovation Awards last month.
The Roshearty business, which produces fruit-based products, was crowned winners in both the Most Successful Product and Best New Retail Product for Businesses with up to 25 Employees categories.
Category director of Asda, Andrew Kenny, presenting the winners with their trophies and certificates on the night, said: “It has been fantastic to see the drive, passion and energy behind some great products in the local area.
“There’s definite potential to support the local producers in the future and list the unique and innovative products in Asda stores for our customers to enjoy.”
The judging panel was chaired by Mr Kenny, marketing and sales director and Ochil Foods, Jeremy Dixon, and food and drink editor at The List, Donald Reid.
During the day, the judges sampled 33 products from 17 companies who had been shortlisted earlier in the month. A total of 25 companies had reached the final across all categories, with over 180 representatives from the food and drink industry descending upon the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa to hear the winners announced.
Berry Scrumptious had won the Most Successful Product award for their gourmet Berry Fudge range, while their Summerhouse Drinks clinched the Best new Retail Product award.
Commenting on the success, Claire Rennie of Berry Scrumptious said: “I’m delighted that we’ve won.
“I think for our lemonade to win is just fantastic. To get the recognition for that is just superb,” she added, explaining that the lemonade was a new product for the company who are known for their chocolate dipped fruits and other sweet edibles.
“We had a whole morning of judging, then you go in and get interviewed, so you’re full of anticipation.
“We were up against some impressive names, so for them to recognise our product, I couldn’t believe it. It’s been a lot of hard work to get the lemonade to where it’s at, and to get the recognition is just fabulous,” she said.
