A couple from Mintlaw have celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary and have been presented with gifts by local councillor Jim Ingram.

Isobel and Alexander Taylor celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 3, and were joined by family and friends for the special occasion.

Originally from New Mill of Keith, the couple married in Keith and have stayed in Mintlaw for 40 years.

Isobel and Alexander have five children - Alexander Jnr, Michael, Keith and twins Shirley and Susan - as well as 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

During his career, Alexander worked on a farm before joining the army. He would later take up employment on the railways as a signalman then moved into the whisky industry, before taking up work at St Fergus Gas Terminal.

Early in her career, Isobel worked in a baker’s shop until she and Alexander married. Isobel worked at Willowbank and later at St Drostan’s for 24 years, first as a care assistant and then as assistant manager.

To mark their milestone anniversary, Isobel and Alexander received a host of cards and gifts from friends and family as well as a very special card from the Queen.

The couple were also joined by local councillor Jim Ingram who delivered a card and gifts on behalf of the community.

To add to the special occasion, Isobel and Alexander are planning to have a family meal at the New Inn, Ellon, in the near future.

Commenting on the secret of a long and happy marriage, Isobel said: “I think understanding eachother and the loving the person for what they are and not wanting them to change.

“We’re very family-orientated and that has kept us together as well.

“A marriage is hard work but it’s worth it.”
