Pride of Buchan Award given to Pick Up Peterhead

A Buchan voluntary group who clean up litter in Peterhead have been recognised by Aberdeenshire Council.

Pick Up Peterhead were given the Pride of Buchan Award at last week’s Buchan Area Committee meeting.

The group are committed to improving the enviroment of the town and regularly organise events to combat litter and dog fouling.

The decision to present the coveted award to Pick Up Peterhead was made unanimously by local councillors.

Chairman and SNP councillor for Peterhead South and Cruden Stuart Pratt praised their initiative.

He said: “Pick Up Peterhead started four years ago when people got fed up with the state of their town.”

The group - which boasts nearly 200 Facebook members - liases with the local authority and the Aberdeenshire Litter Initiative, local community wardens and Police Scotland.

In November they were awarded a Green Butterfly Award.
