A presentation evening was held at the Leisure Centre in Fraserburgh recently as a celebration for the young people who have completed the Prince’s Trust programme.

During the hour-long event, team members explained to the audience of over 75 friends, family members and local partnership agencies what they accomplished during the course and shared their own personal achievements.

During the 12-week programme, the young people successfully completed a five-day outward bounds course in Cromdale, where they took part in a range of activities including canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, gorge walking and a mountain climb.

Those participating in the course also took part in a community project, which saw the young people paint a musical-themed mural and smaller pieces of art in the music room of the People First building in Fraserburgh.

To carry out their community project, the team raised funds by completing out a sponsored walk from Fraserburgh to Strichen along the old railway line.

Each team member also completed a two-week work placement with employers such as CANDO, Westfield School, Shelter, Aberdeenshire Council Landscaping Services, Aberdeen Football Club, Willows Animal Sanctuary and HMV Aberdeen.

Members also planned, organised and delivered five days of activities for various groups in their community, including bingo and a quiz at Jarvis Court, Easter crafts at Happy Days Nursery, a beach clean and, to finish their week, a football gala at James Ramsay Park.

The young people who took part in the Prince’s Trust programme also gained nationally-recognised qualifications and passed both Emergency First Aid at Work and Elementary Food Hygiene short courses.

Commenting, Prince’s Trust Team Leader, John Smyth said: “The team worked so well over the last 12 weeks and to see them up on stage tonight, full of confidence, retelling their stories was unbelievable, tonight shows just how well the team programme works.”
