Shortlist for food awards revealed

The shortlisting for the annual Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards took place at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa last week.

A total of 28 companies have entered the annual prestigious event, which aims to recognise and commend product innovation and good business practice

shown by the north east food and drink industry.

Judges Donald Reid, food and drink editor of The List, and Asda Bridge of Dee store manager, Martin Green assessed 32 products and shortlisted those that will now go through to final judging taking place on Thursday, March 20.

Donald Reid, commented “Innovation is crucial to any business and the products on show display how local companies are responding to the market, modern food trends and aspiring to produce quality food and drink.”

Martin Green added “We have seen great products today and it is good to see so many small businesses within the north east thriving and continuing to deliver something new.”

Companies who are in the final include: Allarburn Farm Shop; Associated Seafoods Ltd; Balmakewan Farm Shop; Berry Scrumptious; Brewmeister; Chalmers Bakery Ltd; Cocoa Ooze Limited; Dean’s of Huntly Ltd; Deeside Brewery Ltd; Eat on the Green; Felicity’s Chocolate; Fresh Food Guru by Andrew Gordon; Gordon & MacPhail; Hamlyns of Scotland; James Rizza & Sons Ltd; JG Ross Bakers Limited; John Ross Jr (Aberdeen) Ltd; Mackie’s of Scotland; Macphie of Glenbervie Ltd; Ola Oils; Pulsetta Foods Limited; Speyside Craft Brewery Ltd; Speyside Specialities; The Green Grocer, and The Little Fudge Shop.

The winners will be announced at a presentation dinner which will also take place on Thursday, March 20 at The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa.

Tickets for the presentation dinner are available and priced at £60 per person and are available on line at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/foodawards.

The Grampian Food Forum is a partnership comprising senior members of the food and drink industry in the North-east of Scotland and development agencies in the area.

It advises public sector organisations on the needs of the food and drink industry so that programmes and projects focused on the actual needs of the industry can be put in place.

The activities of the Forum include awareness visits and and the dining club. It is also a partner in Taste of Grampian.
