Local Christian charity Teen Challenge is set to hold its annual summer party next month.

The organisation – which helps men and women break free from life-controlling addictions – will host the event at its men’s residential centre, Sunnybrae, near Fyvie, on Saturday, August 30.

The charity organises the gathering each year to celebrate transformed lives and to thank its friends and partners for their invaluable support with Sunnybrae, which opened in 2003.

Since then, the centre’s staff and volunteers have helped around 350 men who have come to the facility to start new lives.

At the summer party, guests of all ages will enjoy a host of games and challenges, including a bucking bronco, pony riding and tin can alley. All activities and food – such as burgers, kippers, popcorn and candyfloss – will be free.

Attendees will also hear from current Sunnybrae residents who will share their inspiring stories of how their lives are being powerfully turned around.

Area Manager of Teen Challenge North East Scotland, Gordon Cruden, said: “We’re delighted to again be hosting our annual summer celebration party, which is always a great afternoon, packed with laughter and plenty of food.

“This event is not a fundraiser – rather, it’s our thank you to our supporters so we’d encourage all our friends, and anyone just looking for more info on what exactly we do, to come along and join in the fun.”

Teen Challenge North East Scotland operates two local centres – Sunnybrae, and a female residential facility, Benaiah, near Mintlaw – where residents complete the 48-week Teen Challenge recovery programme.

The course is based on Christian principles and is finely balanced between classroom studies and practical work duties, which equip students with a range of skills, for example, cooking, gardening, DIY, administration, horse livery and entrepreneurship.

After completing the programme, graduates continue to receive support from the charity in establishing homes, career and further education opportunities, social networking and finances.
