Two men from the US are undertaking missionary work in North-east.

Jackson Farnsworth and Shaun Read Walker, both from Utah, have given up their jobs to become missionaries with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jackson Farnsworth grew up in West Valley City, Utah and is the oldest of four children, three boys and one girl.

Before his missionary work, Jackson worked as a pipe-fitter, something he hopes to return to after his mission. Jackson lists sports, hiking and reading as his interests.

Commenting, Elder Farnsworth said: “This is such an honour and a privilege to be able to spend two years in this region of the world.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints sends missionaries all over the world and so I was kind of nervous and a little anxious when my call came, not knowing where I was going.

“To my great surprise I was called to the Scotland/Ireland mission and I’m grateful for the time I have to serve the Lord.

“I have such a strong testimony of this Gospel and I find the work so rewarding and I’m grateful to be able spread the gospel in this area of the world.”

Elder Shaun Read Walker is from Orem, Utah and has lived there his whole life.

Prior to starting his missionary work, Shaun was a jazz musician and recently won The World Championship title in a drum and bugle corps jazz ensemble.

Elder Walker commented: “When I applied to be considered to represent the church as a missionary I only dreamed of being assigned to somewhere as exciting and full of history as Scotland.

“I am so very excited to be here and to learn more about the culture and people.

“As missionaries we have one responsibility and one task, that is to tell as many people as possible about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ as we can.

“I want to share this message with anyone who will listen! So if you ever see two young men wearing name tags and smartly dressed feel free to come and talk to us, or we will come talk to you.

“Also feel free to visit our new church building in Mintlaw. It is located on Newlands Road and our Sunday services begin at 10am.

“All are encouraged and welcome to attend.”
