Work began last week on the former Saltoun Hotel, the town centre building hoping to re-open to the public in July as part of the JD Wetherspoon franchise.
The building, which had previously been used as a popular wedding and dance location before lying disused for several years, saw contractors K D Paine and Associated Ltd begin preliminary works throughout last week.
When contacted, K D Paine and Associates revealed that, while initial repairs to the structure of the building had been the purpose of the workforce present at the site, internal works were not due to take place as yet.
A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said the new pub and hotel will create approximately 60 new jobs, and that, when opened, the building will be called ‘The Saltoun Inn’.
The Saltoun Inn is expected to open on July 22.
