Maggie’s Hoosie is now open for the season.

The Hoosie was last occupied by Miss Maggie Duthie who was proud of her long and hard working life spent keeping the Hoosie and preparing fish for carrying on her creel to distant country markets from which she would barter her goods for fresh country produce.

Maggie persistently refused to upgrade her accommodation with modern electricity and running water facilities, but she consistently maintained a warm, comfortable and clean dwelling place for which she welcomed all to share in the warm and happy home environment.

A visit to the Hoosie is a must for all and visitors can see this unique and quaint original fisher cottage from 2pm to 4pm Monday to Thursday inclusive until mid September.

It invites the visitor to appreciate and reflect on the very honest, hard, dangerous yet so very noble work ethic of the fisher familes so long ago from which our community has so much to be grateful.
