A 22-year-old man has been airlifted to Aberdeen royal Infirmary with serious injuries following a crash on the A98 this morning.

The one vehicle collision occurred on the Banff to Fraserburgh road near Crudie at around 7.25 am today Police Scotland has confirmed.

The 22-year-old-man was the sole occupant of the red Fiat Punto involved in the accident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or to people who saw the car being driven beforehand.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 101.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place.
