Members of Boyndlie SWI were treated to an interesting talk about fiddles recently.

The group’s monthly meeting was held on Thursday, February 18.

Mrs Lorna Pirie welcomed members and friends and the minutes of January’s meeting were read by Mrs Jane Ironside, the group report given by Mrs Dorothy Robbie, and the relevant business discussed.

Lorna then presented Mrs Isobel Gill with a certificate to recognise her many years of service to the WRI between Oldwhat and Boyndlie.

Guest for the evening, Mr Ian Mcintosh, gave a very interesting and entertaining talk on his life with his “fiddles” and had brought along some which dated back to 1836. He told members how he takes care of them and before a concert how he prepares them, finishing off his talk with a few tunes.

The hostesses then served a cup of tea and home bakes and the raffles were drawn.

Ian judged the competitions:

Oven oatcakes: 1 Liz Davidson,2 Isobel Gill, 3 M Towler

Cheese supper dish: 1 I Gill, 2 M Towler, 3 L Pirie.

Lorna then gave the vote of thanks and brought the meeting to a close.
