New chair for forum

The managing director of a prominent local food business has become chairman of the Grampian Food Forum.

Mackie’s of Scotland MD, Mac Mackie, takes over from Grampian Oat Products managing director, Alan Meikle.

Mr Meikle stands down after more than six years in the role and will remain on the Forum’s Strategy Group as vice-chairman.

Grampian Food Forum was formed in 1993 to encourage north-east food and drink companies to learn from each other, share ideas and raise awareness of the key issues within the industry in Grampian.

It has gone from strength to strength, with over 230 different organisations taking part in activities in 2011.

Forum activities are designed to support and complement the national industry strategy and the group is now part of the Scotland Food and Drink Forum Network, which covers the whole of Scotland.

Mr Mackie said: “I am very much looking forward to chairing the Grampian Food Forum for the next couple of years - under Alan’s leadership it has become established as something of a flagship for the wider Scottish food and drink industry.

“The food and drink industry in Grampian is in good health with many well-run, innovative companies giving us huge potential for growth in the coming years.

“Grampian Food Forum will continue to offer support to all food companies in the area and hopefully continue to contribute to the growth of our industry.”

The Grampian Food Forum Strategic Group comprises senior members of local food and drink companies and representatives from Aberdeenshire Council, Aberdeen City Council, Moray Council, Scottish Enterprise, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Sub groups include the Operations Group, which evaluates feedback from events, provides input to future events and generates the annual programme of activities; and the Innovation and Technology Group, which covers new product development, technical and quality issues at a more practical level.

Representatives from all food and drink companies in Grampian are encouraged to participate. For further information or to join, please email: grampianfoodforum@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.
