A North-east pensioner, 87, has died after falling into the waters of Pennan harbour, Police Scotland confirmed last weekend.

Stuart Farquhar had been riding a mobility scooter at the harbour when it had fallen into the water, approximately 25 feet, at around 11am on Friday, April 18.

Mr Farquhar and the scooter had been pulled from the harbour by people at the beach before Police Scotland and the ambulance service arrived on the scene, when he was then taken to the village entrance where he was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter.

The harbour at Pennan, a popular tourist village which was featured in the 1983 film ‘Local Hero’, had been closed off after the incident while an investigation took place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson commented: “Enquiries are still ongoing into the incident.”
