Families from Buchan and the surrounding areas are gearing up for the free annual ‘Wild About Aden’ event at Aden Country Park.

The hugely successful family friendly event will take place over two days, on Tuesday, July 15, and Wednesday, July 16, from 10am to 3pm.

Now in its fourth year, Wild About Aden hopes to build on the fantastic success of the last three years - where more than 6,000 people have visited the park over the two days each year.

This year’s free event will feature a range of new family friendly activities including: outdoor nature sessions; animal handling workshops by The Critter Keeper; a selection of rare breed animals from Doonies Farm and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust; circus skill workshops; face painting; environmental art; mini beast hunt; potted sports; storytelling; treasure hunt; horticulture activities; wildlife crime caravan; RSPB; North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership; Owl & the Pussycat Centre; campfire cooking; Woodland Zumba and the ever popular body zorbing and climbing wall sessions.

Organisers are also delighted to announce that they plan to add to the family fun this year by introducing ‘You Are What You Eat’ - Aberdeenshire’s First Food Science Festival, in partnership with Robert Gordon University.

The food festival will feature sparkling fresh quality produce from local suppliers, cookery demonstrations, a chance to sample food and a chance to discover what’s on your doorstep.

There will also be an opportunity to take part in live science experiments and learn about how food works. Are you a supertaster? Do you know what makes food smell? Discover the power of plants!

If you fancy bouncing around inside an inflatable ball, handling bugs and insects, learning about rare breed animals, searching for treasure, or trying your hand at learning some new circus skills, then join Wild About Aden for a family fun day out in Aden Country Park.

Commenting, Aden Development Worker Neil Shirran said: “The fourth Wild About Aden event should prove to be the best yet.

“We hope the event will not only be a really fun, enjoyable two day event for all the family but we also hope it will encourage friends, families, the young and old, to come together and enjoy what one of Aberdeenshire’s top country parks has to offer.”

“Aden provides a variety of benefits and opportunities for friendships, education, health, exercise, and simply a space for play and fun. Sometimes I think we forget what fantastic parks and green spaces we have in Aberdeenshire and I think the Wild About Aden event will really help to showcase what Aden Country Park has to offer.”

Wild About Aden is a partnership project between Buchan Development Partnership and the Aberdeenshire Council Central Buchan Community Learning and Development service, the Ranger, Museum and Library Services, Active Aberdeenshire, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Doonies Farm and Friends of Aden, amongst others.

It is hoped the event will promote family learning opportunities through a range of hands on experiential learning, whilst raising awareness of the local environment and North East farming heritage.
