A Fraserburgh pub has won a prestigious award.

Cheers Cafe Bar and Tavern has won Sky’s Ultimate Venue Award for Scotland and North England.

The competition process saw 32 venues shortlisted for the award. The shortlist was then whittled down to 16 venues and then just four. Any licensed venue in the region could enter.

Cheers impressed the competition’s judges with its wide range of facilities, including multiple TVs, HD TV, a dedicated 3D lounge bar which offers VIP treatment, readable TVs, smoking facilities, a unique outside area and disability access.

The establishment will now receive a prize which includes ten tickets to Premier League Darts and an appearance on Sky’s website and magazine.

This award is the latest in a string of accolades achieved by Cheers, having won the SLTN Best Smoking Facilities Award, the Dram Award for Best Outside Area, Best Bar None Gold Award, Scotland’s Best Beer Quality Award as well as being the Social Responsibility Award runner up.

Commenting, proprietor Dennis Forsyth said: “We had to answer a lot of questions, which Sky followed up by doing visits and background checks, including our websites.

We’ve tried to make Cheers inclusive and accessible to everyone.

“We have received many awards before and we are delighted to win this award. I’m pleased that this is showing Fraserburgh in a positive light.

“We really appreciate the work of our staff and the support of the community.”
