St Combs couple Alec and Martha Nicol of Mid Street reached a milestone 70 years of marriage recently.

Local councillor Fiona McRae dropped by with a card and flowers for the couple on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council, accompanied by Banff and Buchan MP Eilidh Whiteford.

Mr and Mrs Nicol have three children, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

Cllr Fiona McRae said: “It’s always a pleasure to officiate at Golden or Diamond Weddings for the council, but a 70th wedding anniversary is even more special.

“I very much enjoyed chatting to Mr and Mrs Nicol and wish them continued happiness in the years to come.”

Banff and Buchan MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford added: “Incredibly, Mr and Mrs Nicol informed me this is not the first point in time in their family history when the family tree has spanned five generations at once. It was a delight to meet Mr and Mrs Nicol and hear about their family, including their great great-grandchildren, and I congratulate them on reaching this milestone.”
