Banffshire & Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson has welcomed the news that Roads Community Café Project in St Combs is to receive £7,000 from the Big Lottery Fund towards a feasibility study into building an extension.

Mr Stevenson said: “It is excellent news that Roads Community Café has received this funding award and the fact that they are looking into expanding the facilities they currently offer shows just how much of a success the Community Café has been since its launch.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the outcome of the feasibility study will be and hope it will help the Roads Community Café secure an even brighter future in the years ahead.”

Commenting the Rev Forbes Nicol said: “We are delighted at receiving this award from Awards for all, the funds will enable us to carry out a feasibility study and apply for the permissions to extend the cafe premises.

“The Cafe has been used out of operating hours over the last year by The St. Combs Boys Brigade, Roads Kids Club, St. Combs Community Church, and the St. Combs Junior Fluting Class.

“Also we have had funeral teas and other groups using the venue for quiz nights etc, this has prompted us to explore the possibility of an additional function room to enable us to be better equipped to facilitate these groups and reduce the disruption to the cafe area as we need to clear the area when some organisations are using the venue.”
