Level 1 Beauty Therapy students at North East Scotland College have chosen to support the 2015 Shoe Box Appeal to help those living in poverty this Christmas.

The students are requesting suitable donations which they will then package into a shoe box for an adult or child which will be sent to those in poverty in Eastern Europe, distributed through Blythswood Care, a charity that provides humanitarian aid.

Gillian Griffin, Curriculum and Quality Manager Hair, Beauty and Complementary Therapies says, “I am very proud of the work the students, who are calling themselves ‘The Shoe Box Team’, have put into supporting this worthwhile appeal.

“I aim to be one of the first to donate my own shoebox full of useful items and gifts.

“This is part of the Students coursework, where they are required to demonstrate enterprise skills such as organisation and communication and I am delighted that they wanted to include the local community in harnessing support for the appeal.”

Student Jaye Garden, aged 16, from Fraserburgh added “We thought it would be a good idea to ask all the readers of the Fraserburgh Herald and Buchan Observer if they would like to get involved in this by donating any of the items from the list and dropping them off at the College whenever they are passing.

The appeal is open until the end of October so there is plenty of time.”

The students are requesting any of the following items which will easily fit into a shoebox such as Toiletries, Clothes and other items like new make-up, stuffed Teddys, toy cars or screw drivers/ pliers or sewing equipment.

Join others to fill a shoe box suitable for a child or adult in time for Christmas and be sent to countries such as Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania and Serbia. Over 1.8 million boxes have been donated and distributed over the years.

Donations should be left at the main reception or the salon reception at Fraserburgh Campus in the Shoe Box collection bin. For more information on the Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal visit shoeboxappeal.org.
