Fraserburgh’s Super Saturdays are coming back next weekend - and they’re coming back with a bang!
The first Super Saturday event of 2014 is taking place from 10am to 3.30pm on May 10 and will once again be held in the town centre.
Under the theme of Homecoming, the Royal British Legion Pipe Band will open the market-based family event.
The 32-piece band, dressed in Flower of Scotland Kilts, will be playing a host of Scottish tunes to championship standard.
Throughout the day, there will be a host of activities, stalls and entertainment on offer for the whole family.
Visitors will be able to find out about local attractions at the Fraserburgh Area Tourism Group stall and see what the North East has to offer right on our doorstep.
There will also be a chance to take a trip down memory lane at the Reminisance Stall.
Once again, there will be plenty of opportunities to visit food stands and tasting stalls: visitors will be able to taste and try a wonderful selection of locally-sold, fine-quality foods including fish and prime cuts of meat.
Super Saturday organisers have a great selection of local shops and specialist market traders lined up who will bring the best local catches from our coastal waters and the finest cuts of meat from rare bread animals including beef, lamb, mutton and pork.
Also making a comeback this year will be cooking demonstrations - led by last year’s Super Saturday organiser Ann Bell - and visitors won’t be able to resist the aroma of cooked-to-order traditional Scottish pancakes at the pancake stall, where all profits will go to the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute.
Visitors are also sure to be impressed with the Super Saturday gift, craft, clothing and jewellery stalls and take advantage of some great offers in Fraserburgh’s shops, cafes and restaurants while in town.
Visitors will be treated to an array of baking stalls, adding to the choice available at Fraserburgh’s baker shops which serve the town all year round.
The RNLI are also to have a stall on Super Saturday, where visitors will be able to support the life-saving work of the Lifeboat.
As well as food, cookery and stalls, there will also be a range of entertainment and activities on offer throughout the day, including a Zumba demonstration and belly dancing. Enjoy a great fun filled day out for all the family with music from local artists and singers, entertainment and inflatable fun.
Among those providing the entertainment will be the recently-crowned winner of Tesco’s Got Talent, Shaun Symes, who will wow the crowds on Super Saturday.
There will be a fantastic range of great competitions at the Children’s Saturday Shack - where under-16s will get the chance to design their own tartan and win a prize sponsored by Dyga’s Newsagent, which is celebrating 55 years of trading this year - making them one of the town’s longest-established retailers.
There are also some great cash prizes available for those who complete the Tartan Window Spotting competition. Entry forms can be picked up at participating shops from May 3 onwards and will be drawn on Super Saturday itself on May 10. Children aged 16 or under can enter and learn to recognise some of Scotland’s fantastic tartans.
Kiddiwinks Nursery will be taking part in the first Super Saturday and will be singing and dancing at the event.
Once Super Saturday ends at 3.30pm, the fun does not stop there. Last year, Cheers Cafe Bar and Tavern played a major role in the proceedings and will be doing so again this year. From 3.30pm to 6.30pm, Cheers will be hosting a ceilidh event allowing visitors to continue enjoying the Scottish fun.
Commenting, Super Saturday organiser Anne Gostling said: “With the May event drawing close, I’m delighted with the positive response from the local community.
“This could not have been possible without the support of our volunteers, who give their time freely, as well as our stall holders and entertainers. Thanks also to Fraserburgh Forward Business Association, Fraserburgh Development Trust, Aberdeenshire Council and our local councillors for their support.”
All of the stalls at the May event are now fully booked but if you would like to find out more about Super Saturdays, contact Anne Gostling on 01346 510245 between 9am and 12.30pm each day, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Super Saturday Facebook page.
