FORMER Banff and Buchan MP Sir Albert McQuarrie said he was “deeply honoured” to have been invited to attend the funeral of fomer prime minister, Baroness Thatcher.
Sir Albert, who is known affectionately as the Buchan Bulldog, said that he received the invitation from the Cabinet Office last Friday.
However, was unable to attend the event after badly injuring his knee.
Commenting prior to the funeral, Sir Albert said: “I think it’s an honour for both myself and the Buchan area to have been one of only 2,300 people invited to the funeral.
“It would have been a great honour for me to attend, but due to injury I will have to settle for watching the event on television.”
Baroness Thatcher’s funeral took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral yesterday (Wednesday). Attendees included members of the royal family and all surviving prime ministers.
