Buchan’s first bike challenge has received a welcome boost from world record-holding cyclist Mark Beaumont, who has given his support to the family event.
“Opportunities such as this are a brilliant way to capture the challenge spirit and encourage children to be the adventurers of the future,” he said. “This family cycle could even be the first step in sowing the seed for a future round-the-world cyclist!
“I think it’s important that we learn to look for the adventurer in ourselves and cycling is a great and affordable way to do that. There is a great sense of community amongst cyclists and the activity is beneficial in so many ways,” he added.
“When I completed my first 10-mile cycle as a youngster, I didn’t realise that a few years later I would be undertaking an 18,000-mile, round-the-world challenge and cycling from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego!”
Buchan Area Manager Chris White praised Mark’s comments, adding: “It’s really exciting that an event like this can attract comment from such an accomplished cyclist.
“Individuals like Mark are great role models and events like the Aden Bike Challenge provide great opportunities to try something new and exciting.
“I took part in a coast-to-coast challenge last year which proves that once you start cycling, you never know what it could lead to.”
Families and individuals are encouraged to get on their bikes to take part in the ride, which will be held on Sunday, March 18 and will take place between Peterhead and Aden Country Park.
