Despite a strong start to the month with two very good performances Fraserburgh United ended February with dissapointment as they lost 3-1 away to Peterhead rivals Buchanhaven Hearts.
Both teams hit the woodwork in the opening excanges as Jake West narrowley missed out on a goal for the visitors and United keeper Edward Flynn was forced into a excellent save from Hearts Striker Dane Ballard’s free kick which the goalie tipped onto the crossbar.
Ballard then got the opening goal after getting on the end of a cross swung in from the left channel.
United won a free kick early on in the second half and managed to to cause a miscommunication between two Hearts defenders allowing Jonathan Garden to head home from inside the box for the equaliser.
Hearts got back infront again through Dane Ballard who finished off inside the box after another good cross.
United then wen’t a man down when they lost Neil Hay to a second bookable offence before Hearts added a third and decisive goal when Kevin Norris headed home a long range Mark Simpson free kick.
Hearts would finish the game with ten men also as Richie Ligertwood was also sent off for a second bookable offence.
Buchanhaven now move to within six points of leaders Bridge of Don as they look to get back on top after a 15point deduction while United drop down to sixth spot.
Stuart Noble’s men next face another local derby as the welcome Longside to Fraserburgh as the end of season draws nearer.
