A Broch teenager is set be the youngest player at an international indoor bowls competition this weekend in Northern Ireland .
Bradley Buchan, 13, will represent Scotland for the first time at the Under 18 Mixed Championships in Ballymoney on October 10 and 11.
Bradley said: “I’m looking forward to playing on a different carpet for a change and the chance to play for my country.”
The Fraserburgh schoolboy usually plays his bowling at the indoor facility at the Leisure Centre where he has been bowling for the last six and a half years.
Tracy Buchan, Bradley’s mum, is proud of her son and what he has achieved at such a young age.
Tracy said: “We’re so proud of him, we just can’t believe how good he is.”
She also admits that it is her that gets nervous when Bradley competes in the bigger matches while the teenager remains calm.
Bradley relishes these type of matches though as he finds them ‘more challenging.’
Having already won the Scottish Championships and playing week in week out against players decades his senior - including his dad - turning out for Scotland is the next step up in Bradley’s eyes.
Bradley will take a lot of support with him to the championships in Northern Ireland where he will compete against teams from Ireland, England, Wales and the Channel Islands.
Along with his mum and dad, Bradley will also be backed by bowling representatives from the Leisure Centre Margaret Watt and Arthur Gammoch who are ‘chuffed’ for the young man.
